Investment Casting
Components with extremely high near-net-shape requirements and surface qualities are produced by the investment casting process. The high precision of investment cast parts can reduce or eliminate some machining operations. This process is commonly used for the production of large quantities of parts.
Wax patterns in the shape of the finished casting are assembled on wax ‘trees’. The ‘trees’ are coated with several layers of ceramic particles to form a mould. Each layer is applied via a ceramic slurry followed by drying. The wax is removed, the ceramic mould is fired and is then ready for casting.
